recherchait si l'aimant avait produit quelque petit changement dans la
motilite ou la sensibilite du doigt ou de la main, et qu'il pouvait juger
tres rapidement si une personne etait hypnotisable ou non[20]. Dans le
cabinet de Charcot on fit venir, l'une apres l'autre, une vingtaine de
malades, et M. Ochorowicz les examina et declara pour chacune d'elles s'il
la croyait hypnotisable ou non; il etait convenu qu'on prendrait note de
ses observations, et qu'on chercherait a les verifier; mais je doute fort
que l'affaire ait eu une suite quelconque, l'attention du Maitre etait
ailleurs. Je crois qu'on pourrait adopter, pour l'etude de l'attention
expectante, un dispositif analogue a celui que je viens de signaler; par
exemple un tube dans lequel le sujet devrait laisser son doigt enfonce
pendant cinq minutes; on prendrait des mesures pour donner a l'experience
un caractere serieux, et surtout on reglerait d'avance les paroles a
adresser au sujet; apres quelques tatonnements inevitables, il me parait
certain qu'on arriverait tres vite a un resultat.

De telles recherches montreraient surtout si l'etat mental de
suggestibilite (c'est-a-dire d'obeissance passive) a quelque analogie avec
l'etat mental d'attention expectante (c'est-a-dire la disposition aux
erreurs d'imagination).

Alfred Binet (July 8, 1857 October 18, 1911), French psychologist and inventor of the first usable intelligence test, the basis of todays IQ test. Born in Nice, Binet was a French psychologist who published the first modern intelligence test, the Binet-Simon intelligence scale, in 1905. His principal goal was to identify students who needed special help in coping with the school curriculum. Along with his collaborator Thodore Simon, Binet published revisions of his intelligence scale in 1908 and 1911, the last appearing just before his untimely death. A further refinement of the Binet-Simon scale was published in 1916 by Lewis M. Terman, from Stanford University, who incorporated the German psychologist William Sterns proposal that an individuals intelligence level be measured as an intelligence quotient (I.Q.).
